Regional Resnet Organizations are a great way to share information and keep in touch with your neighbors.
It's easy to create a regional resnet. All you need is a hosting institution who is willing to provide a room large enough for 5 - 50 people, one restaurant, a few other interested colleagues from other institutions, and a date. Oh, and a map to your place. If you want to be a really nice host, you can also provide some hotel information around the area.
You do not need to ask your department to spend a lot of money, and you do not need to arrange for vendors. Leave that up to the larger resnet symposium!
A sample agenda might include the following:
9:30am Coffee and bagels
10am Introduction and presentation by hosting institution
11am Break
11:15am Presentation by outside institution
12 noon Lunch at a nearby restaurant - everyone pays his or her own
1:30pm Presentation by hosting or outside institution
2:30pm Round table discussion on chosen relevant topics
3:30pm Tour of the campus
4pm End
At the end of a session, you will be glad you attended.
